Marketing and Communications – Remote, Paid, Six-Month Fellowship
Are you ready to gain solid event marketing and communications experience while strengthening your skills? Then you’ll want to apply for our remote, six-month paid fellowship with the Center Centre.
What your fellowship will be like.
You’ll orchestrate our weekly editorial production work
Each week starts with an editorial meeting of our marketing staff. You’ll present the week’s marketing plans you’ve come up with, coordinating with the copy team and the email developers to ensure it flows on schedule.
During the week, you’ll use your excellent writing and editing skills to review marketing copy, looking for ways to bring clarity to our messaging. You’ll make sure we keep to the schedule, so you’ll need to bring out your A-game planning skills. The work will require you to bounce between a dozen state-of-the-art marketing, collaboration, and editorial tools, including Notion, Slack, Google Suite, Content Studio, Canva, Zoom, Grammarly, Vimeo, Loom, and Airtable. (Don’t worry, we’ll give you training and support to master these.)
The best marketing requires orchestrating a thousand tiny yet essential details. You’ll never be bored because there’s always something different to do. Yet, you’ll get lots of practice to hone your skills and gain profound experiences.
You’ll develop new content-marketing campaigns
We always need to reach new audiences and find new ways to deliver our best work. We’ll need every ounce of creativity and ingenuity you can give us.
We’re sitting on a ton of resources and in-depth knowledge about our field of expertise: designing and delivering better products and services. Our audience (current and potential) is craving everything we can give them. We need your help getting what we know into the world.
You’ll work directly with the senior staff to conceive, iterate, and produce brand-new campaigns. We want to explore new mediums, such as online videos, Instagram stories, and other up-and-coming marketing vehicles.
We want to see how we can repurpose popular resources to reach the widest audience. And we’ll want to experiment with how we measure success. You’ll be right in the center of all of this. (Can you imagine putting that on your résumé?)
You’ll be responsible for hiring and training your replacement
Three months into your six-month fellowship, and you’ll be hiring our next fellow. You’ll work alongside our marketing team to find the best new fellows to join us. You’ll see the inside workings of a highly-effective hiring process. (And you’ll learn great hiring and interviewing skills, which you’ll take with you for the rest of your career.)
Once hired, this new fellow will start to take over your daily responsibilities. You’ll oversee their training, making sure your high-quality work continues. (One of the great things about training someone is that you learn even more in the process.)
What will you do during the second half of your fellowship if they take over your daily responsibilities? You get to choose. We want you to take on some more significant projects and initiatives. Now you’ll have the time to dig in and make it happen.
Maybe you’ll explore new marketing channels for us. Perhaps you’ll launch a new newsletter. Maybe you’ll find novel ways to use video to market our offerings. We’ll work with you to find something that both benefits our marketing and looks great in your portfolio of work.
Your fellowship work will be essential to our mission.
We have a 100-year mission at Center Centre: to rid the world of everything that’s poorly designed. Every day, we work with user experience professionals in every industry, helping them deliver well-designed products and services. When you join our team, your work will become an integral part of our mission.
With your help, our organization delivers on our mission. Your work is crucial for expanding our network of UX professionals, potential students, and supporters.
How the interview process works
After you send in your application, we’ll give it a solid review. If you fit what we’re seeking. If that goes well, you’ll then meet our team, and we’ll learn more about your past marketing accomplishments and comparable experience.
We’re an easy-going group. The interview process is low-pressure. We promise to keep you in the loop during the entire process. We’re happy to answer any questions you might have.
We see our hiring process as a partnership with every applicant. We’re in this together.
What we want to see
During the interviews, we’re looking specifically for how you have:
- Led (or was part of the leadership team for) a significant event, like a fundraiser, prom, sporting event, or some other event that required weeks of planning and coordination.
- Planned, managed, and executed marketing for online or offline events.
- Crafted and edited written content.
- Learned new, challenging things.
- Executed on highly-detailed project work.
- Built your daily and weekly routines to ensure you completed important, regular tasks on time.
- Worked independently on projects.
- Collaborated through online teamwork.
- Adapted to changing work priorities and direction in a fast-paced setting.
- Tackled a challenging problem and learned from it.
We want to hear everything you have to tell us on these topics. The more you can describe, the more you’ll be considered for this position. Don’t hold back.
